Google Plus is a social network that is often overlooked by businesses and general internet users. There is a lot of confusion as to what it does and the common thing that I hear from businesses is, ‘I don’t use it, I don’t know anyone that does so I won’t use it for my business’.
Despite the fact that there are not huge amounts of active users updating and checking Google Plus on a regular basis, this does not mean that it cannot be useful for businesses.
Here are a few reasons why businesses should use Google Plus…
Indexing of pages
If you write a blog post, news piece or article for your website, if you post it on Google Plus, it is more likely to get indexed quicker than waiting for Google to crawl your website again. So if your content marketing strategy has a component around current and up to date information, can you afford to wait until the next crawl before the page gets indexed? Sure there are other ways that you can get the article out but why ignore the opportunity to drive organic traffic via search?
The Google Plus box on the right of search results
Googe now delivers further brand information based on Google Plus pages on the right hand side of search including, latest G+ posts, reviews, location etc.
Connecting up with Webmaster Tools
Google plus provides synergy between your website, YouTube channel, reviews and location linking everything to your website.
Hangouts are actually really good fun, you can even save and post videos directly to YouTube. I’d recommend having a play with hangouts in the office, you never know, it may just spark a great idea!
Google plus can play home to you business reviews. Reputation is increasing vital in a competitive digital space so taking ownership it key. Google Plus provides a free platform to get reviews and will begin to display them on search engine results pages. Be proactive, not reactive!
There are very few, if any, good arguments to suggest businesses should not use Google Plus. It can help with your reputation, get new pages on your site indexing quicker, provides a platform for digital ideas and enhances the way your brand looks and stands out on search engine results pages.
Have a play with Google Plus, you may actually find it pretty good!
